Inflatable pads that reach sleeping firmness in about a minute — electric pumps, built-in foot pumps and pillows where it makes sense.
Auto-inflate versus foot pump
An electric pump is faster and can top up mid-night. A built-in foot pump never runs out of charge. Choose by whether you camp near power.
Packed size against comfort
Thicker pads sleep better and pack bigger. If it lives in a car boot, go thick. If it goes on your back, check the packed dimensions first.
Valves and slow leaks
Most 'punctures' are a valve left a quarter turn open. Close it fully, then check the seam before assuming the pad has failed.
